Meet the Panel

Cheese
Unofficial CEO3 years

Cheese

Meet Cheese — the unofficial CEO of CaliCatLab and the very official boss of everyone in the house. At just three years old, this orange tabby has already survived FIP like an absolute champion, and he now lives every day like he knows he beat the odds.

Cheese takes his management role seriously. His day starts promptly at 4:00 AM when he aggressively reminds his human that breakfast is not optional and sleeping in is unacceptable. He patrols the house, supervises all scratcher testing, and keeps the other cats in line with a combination of staring, strategic hallway blocking, and pure confidence. Despite his tough executive style, Cheese is also ridiculously charming. He knows he's handsome, expects admiration at all times, and somehow manages to get away with everything.

Study role: First responder and product supervisor — if Cheese doesn't investigate it, nobody does.

Momma Cat
Quiet Legend8 years

Momma Cat

Meet Momma Cat — the quiet legend of CaliCatLab. Two years ago, she showed up with four kittens depending on her, battle-worn and missing an eye, but still completely fearless. We'll never know exactly what happened, but judging by her protective nature, we're pretty sure she fought off something much bigger than herself to keep her babies safe. And honestly? We believe she won.

No one messes with Momma. She doesn't seek attention, doesn't start drama, and prefers to keep to herself — but the entire house respects her. The other cats seem to understand there's a certain line you do not cross with her. Especially when it comes to her son, Tommy Snow Cat. If Tommy even looks mildly inconvenienced, Momma is instantly alert and ready to launch into full security-detail mode. She carries herself with quiet confidence, like a cat who's seen things and survived them all.

Study role: Environmental baseline — Momma's calm, independent behavior sets the standard for unprompted, unscripted product interaction.

Cat
Resident Chaos Goblin7 years

Cat

Meet Cat. Yes, his name is literally Cat. And honestly, nothing else would fit. Cat was found alone on the street as a kitten, and from day one… he's been a little unusual. We suspect even his own mother may have looked at him and thought, "Yeah, I can't deal with this." He's a complete loner, deeply suspicious of everyone, and fully capable of switching from silent observer to tiny chaos goblin without warning.

No one in the house is entirely sure what Cat is thinking at any given moment — including Cat. He may walk into a room, stare at the wall for twenty minutes, randomly attack someone's ankle, then disappear like nothing happened. The other cats avoid unnecessary eye contact with him, which is probably smart. But beneath all the weirdness, Cat is family. He may not want cuddles, friendship, or societal norms, but he has a home, a safe place, and people who love him exactly as he is. Weird little street goblin and all.

Study role: Wild card data point — Cat's unpredictable engagement patterns reveal which products are genuinely compelling enough to break through even the deepest indifference.

Knowledge
Street Knowledge2 years

Knowledge

Meet Knowledge. Street Knowledge, to be exact — named after the Ice Cube lyric because honestly, it fit her perfectly from day one. She appeared in our backyard one summer like she already owned the place, carrying herself with the confidence of a cat who had clearly seen some things. About a month later, she surprised us by giving birth to four kittens. We found loving homes for all the babies, got her spayed, and told her she never had to worry about surviving on her own again.

Knowledge is incredibly friendly, but very much on her own terms. She'll come inside for food, naps, and social visits, then disappear outside to patrol the yard like a tiny security guard making her rounds. We don't generally endorse outdoor cats, but since outdoor life was all she ever knew before us, we've tried to respect that part of who she is. She's smart, observant, independent, and clearly has a little street knowledge in her soul. The name started as an Ice Cube reference, but at this point it just feels accurate. "On the streets we get lost; and on the streets we find — knowledge, treasure and people of a lifetime." #tbwproject

Study role: Outdoor-to-indoor transition tester — Knowledge's unique background makes her especially valuable for products that need to appeal to cats with both indoor and outdoor experience.

Mariah
The Diva. The Legend. Mimi.7 years

Mariah

Meet Mariah — named after Mariah Carey because there was simply no other option. This cat is a full diva in every sense of the word. Around here, we call her Mimi. Mimi believes life should revolve around Mimi. She provides a constant soundtrack of whining, chirping, chattering at birds, and dramatic complaints if breakfast is even thirty seconds late.

She's incredibly picky about food, expects premium grooming services on demand, and is deeply committed to maintaining her beauty. If you stop brushing her before she feels emotionally fulfilled, she will absolutely let you know. Like her namesake, Mimi is glamorous, dramatic, sensitive, and a little high-maintenance — but impossible not to love. She's also a proudly chunky girl who somehow manages to look elegant while demanding snacks. Unfortunately, Cheese likes to launch surprise attacks on her when he wants second breakfast, which usually results in Mimi crying to management about workplace harassment. Underneath all the diva energy, she's actually a huge softie. She struggles with anxiety sometimes and even stress-grooms her tail when life gets overwhelming, but she's also one of the sweetest cats in the house. At seven years old, Mimi has perfected the art of being equal parts emotional support cat, beauty queen, and tiny furry celebrity.

Study role: Sensory and texture evaluator — Mimi's high standards and strong product preferences make her the lab's most reliable signal for premium positioning and grooming product appeal.

Tommy Snow Cat
Part Mountain Lion. Part Attic Ghost.2 years

Tommy Snow Cat

Meet Tommy Snow Cat — Momma Cat's giant baby boy and Cheese's self-appointed little brother, sidekick, and devoted disciple. If Cheese goes somewhere, Tommy is usually five feet behind him trying to figure out what the mission is. We call him Tommy Snow Cat because he looks like he belongs plundering through the arctic in the middle of a snowstorm. He's impossibly fluffy, dramatically handsome, and somehow always looks slightly suspicious of everyone around him.

Tommy operates at two speeds: asleep and absolute chaos. One second he'll be passed out upside down in a scratcher sofa, and the next his head snaps up because he heard a leaf move three houses away. From there it's full-speed insanity — ricocheting off furniture, parkouring across the house, and somehow ending up vertically attached to the front screen door like a possessed cream-colored squirrel. He's wild, unpredictable, and has absolutely no concept of personal space or self-preservation. But underneath all the chaos, Tommy is incredibly sweet and deeply loyal to his people and his cat crew. Momma still watches over him like he's a tiny kitten, even though he's now a giant fluffy menace. Part mountain lion. Part attic ghost. Part WWE stunt performer. Tommy Snow Cat keeps life interesting.

Study role: High-energy engagement tester — Tommy's two-speed lifestyle (dead asleep vs. full chaos) makes him the definitive measure of whether a product can capture and hold the attention of an active, easily distracted cat.

Girley
Daddy's Girl. Tiny Warrior.2 years

Girley

Meet Girley — named Girley because it looks like she's permanently wearing perfect eyeliner. She has the softest expression, the sweetest personality, and the kind of delicate little face that makes everyone instantly fall in love with her. She's especially attached to her dad and fully embraces her role as daddy's girl.

But underneath all that sweetness is a tiny warrior. Girley showed up in our backyard last summer and somehow managed to keep five newborn kittens alive and hidden for two full weeks before we discovered them. And the unbelievable part? She was basically still a kitten herself. In over 100-degree heat, she protected her babies outside completely on her own, somehow finding the strength and instinct to survive when most cats twice her age would struggle. Despite everything she's been through, Girley is impossibly gentle. She's affectionate, trusting, and quietly determined — the kind of cat who doesn't need to demand attention because people naturally want to protect her the second they meet her. She may look delicate, but Girley is proof that resilience doesn't always roar. Sometimes it shows up as a tiny cat with eyeliner, five kittens, and the determination to survive no matter what.

ResilientGentleDaddy's Girl

Study role: Trust and comfort evaluator — Girley's gentle, affectionate nature makes her the lab's most sensitive indicator for products designed around comfort, safety, and calm.

Why Seven?

A Panel, Not a Pet

Single-cat studies are anecdotes. Seven cats with distinct personalities, ages, and behavioral profiles produce data that's statistically meaningful — and defensible in a retail meeting.

Each cat in the CaliCatLab panel has been observed across dozens of studies. We know their baselines. We know their patterns. When something changes, we notice — and we can tell you why it matters.

The panel is diverse by design: different ages, different temperaments, different engagement styles. Your product gets tested against the full spectrum of feline behavior, not just the easy cases.

Age range

2–7 years — covering kitten energy through senior selectivity

Personality spread

Bold to cautious, fast to methodical, consistent to unpredictable

Baseline data

Every cat has an established behavioral baseline from prior studies

Independent behavior

No prompting, no staging — cats interact on their own terms, on camera

Put the panel to work for your brand.
